Looking for a good deal on a really cheap tablet for e-reading? A friend just pointed out that Woot’s got some refurbished Fire HD 6 tablets available for $30 for the 8 GB or $35 for the 16 GB models. They’re Amazon tablets, so they’ll have the annoying operating system restrictions, but these are the high-definition models with a display better than the $50 Fire. And at that price, they’re basically the next best thing to disposable anyway.

Just keep in mind that, unless you have only a few apps that you want to use, 8 GB is worthless and 16 GB is barely tolerable. I know. Both my iPhone 5 and iPad 3 are 16 GB. Only by ruthless purging do I keep any open space left on them.
These tablets might be best for kids and then only if the games and education apps you have are small. They’re the digital equivalent of a car that can’t drive faster that 30 mph.
